Right now, there’s a great need for all of us to live the Gospel and evangelize society. There’s also a great need to provide emotional and financial support for moms facing unplanned pregnancies so that they’ll choose life.

We believe that in order to renew the culture of life in the long term, we must begin with our own personal transformation and growth in holiness. In the short term, we believe that moms will choose life if they are given the emotional and financial support they need to do so.

Biking for Babies helps Christians joyfully and sacrificially live the Gospel, grow in virtue, and raise money and awareness for pregnant and parenting moms and pregnancy resource centers. Biking is the adventurous, creative hook that brings them into the mission.

This all started because two young men were inspired to make the spirit of pro-life work more accessible to others and themselves—trying to experience, in some small measure, the endurance and commitment of young women and families in the face of an unexpected pregnancy.

Jimmy Becker and Mike Schaefer zig zagged across Illinois on their bikes in March 2009 with the goal to riding 600 miles in order to raise money and awareness for the women and family-focused efforts taking place at a pregnancy resource center nearby.

They raised over $14,000 that year. And they had the life-changing of experience of visiting the center on their ride and holding one of the babies that had been saved because of the center's work. With that, they realized this work was meant to continue and grow stronger.

Since then, Biking for Babies has been blessed with a steadily increasing stream of young people who have been inspired to make the “endurance and commitment” required of pro-life work real to themselves and others.

In the Letter to the Romans, Paul exhorts his listeners to "offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, your spiritual worship" and to "be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God." Each of the college students and young adults that have participated since 2009 have had their hearts and minds renewed for the better, as they've offered their time, talents, and physical abilities to renew our culture's perspective on life.

These young men and women, whom we call missionaries, move on from their experience inspired and ready to impact their local communities.

This year, in a totally new addition to the Biking for Babies world, Gerry Fornes and Vinny Schrier have planned a cross-country ride to renew the culture of life and help pregnant moms. Whoa! That's a lot of miles and a big commitment!

Even so, the history of Biking for Babies is not best understood in miles biked or money raised, but, rather as part of the penetrating story of pro-life work that is alive and growing stronger—in our families, churches, communities, and in our own hearts.

Even as our mission grows, we recognize that our work is far from over. Now, more than ever, each of us is needed to put our prayers into action and make a difference. Join us, we’re just getting started.
