WHAT IS THE BUFFALO ARCHITECTURE FOUNDATION?

Thank you for supporting BAF! Buffalo Architecture Foundation, Inc. (BAF) is a not-for-profit, public charity dedicated to inspiring the exploration and appreciation of architecture and how it shapes our lives. BAF’s mission is implemented through educational activities for school-aged children and public awareness events engaging citizens of all ages.

Some of our programs include:

Architecture + Education: The Architecture + Education Program is a collaboration between BAF, the Buffalo Public Schools, the University at Buffalo, and Buffalo State College that uses architecture to teach students math, science, history, art, and technology aligned with the Common Core, while raising awareness and appreciation of the built environment. Children are introduced to the profession of architecture, local practicing professionals, and the distinctive way of viewing the world and tackling problems through architecture as the tool.

6 Minute Building Stories: 6Mbs is an informal and fun gathering featuring presentations by esteemed speakers from diverse cultural disciplines in unique locations throughout Buffalo, NY. Speakers present their building story through 18 images. The total time allotted for each slide is 20 seconds and, as the slide changes after 20 seconds, so does the related verbal content.

Pro Bono Publico Program: BAF encourages the Western New York design community to dedicate one percent or more of their working hours to Pro Bono Service in the public interest without expectation of a fee or with a significant reduction in fees. BAF proudly sponsors the Pro Bono Publico Award in recognition of exemplary pro bono services provided to not-for-profit clients by architects or allied practitioners, hosts community oriented Design Competitions whose rewards are greater than the investment made, and plan events that bring design professionals and community group leaders together through an inviting and productive environment to match design needs with design services.

Color In Buffalo Project: To help support this variety of public programming in the greater Buffalo region, BAF invites you to submit art for the first-ever, collaborative coloring book project. The coloring book aims to feature notable Buffalo architecture, landscapes, and public works of art, and will be available for sale on-line and at public events hosted and attended by BAF.
