Story
Author Theresa Dodaro skillfully blends the past and present of Sayville, using the time-slip novel genre. The Meadow Croft estate, once owned by the Roosevelt family, serves as a central location alongside the oyster company in West Sayville and the independent baymen on the east side. Ida Gillette, a notable philanthropist and suffragette, is also featured, having donated the land for the orphanage buildings on Middle Road.
In her novel "The Bayman's Daughter," Dodaro tells the story of Hannah, a young woman who defied societal norms in the 19th century to become a doctor. The novel is set in Sayville and showcases the town's rich history. Join Dodaro for a book reading and engage in lively discussions with fellow book lovers. Get inspired by Hannah's remarkable journey and learn more about Sayville's fascinating past.
