Abigail Yenawine is a 2023 Julian High School graduate who tragically lost her father in a car accident and her mother to cancer. Last year, in the midst of her loss, the Julian community rallied around Abigail to help her reach her goal of going to UC Merced. Her first year of college was an amazing experience for her where she made new friends, enjoyed classes and joined the Sigma Theta Psi sorority.

Abigail will be entering her second year of college and still needs financial help with dental, medical and educational expenses. Please consider joining Backcountry Communities Thriving and the Sons of the American Legion in support of this bright young woman.

Backcountry Communities Thriving (BCT) was founded out of a need to support a community that was lacking resources. Julian is situated in the mountains about 60 miles east of San Diego. The rural unincorporated community does not have public transportation, large medical facilities or even a town newspaper. BCT provides support to the Julian residents through free food distributions, connections to social services, fundraising and grant writing services for the local high school and promotes wildfire safety and disaster preparedness. BCT advocates with county and state leaders to increase the visibility of those in rural areas. In a community with so much need, BCT has become the hub of resources and support.
