The Black Down Syndrome Association (BDSA) is the first national non-profit organization devoted to supporting Black families and their loved ones with Down syndrome. Founded by two Black mothers of sons with Down syndrome, BDSA is dedicated to amplifying, honoring, and respecting the voices, experiences, and lives of Black persons with Down syndrome.
Maternal mental health is a vital focus for BDSA. We are deeply aware of the statistics surrounding maternal mental health, especially concerning Black women. During Black Philanthropy Month, BDSA is raising funds for our newest initiative: BDSA Respite Retreats. These retreats offer mothers of children with Down syndrome a chance to rest, relax, and rejuvenate among others who share similar experiences. We believe that healthy mothers create healthy families, and we are committed to supporting Black mothers so they can continue to love and nurture their children
