Help Parvo Puppies Gramps and Pixie!
On Tuesday, April 9, Almost Home Pet Adoption Center had already closed when people came to the doors. They had two puppies, one of whom was very ill. Gramps was tested for Canine Parvovirus and was positive. Canine parvovirus (CPV) is a highly contagious viral disease of dogs that commonly causes acute gastrointestinal illness in puppies and can be fatal. The owners surrendered Gramps and Pixie so that they could get veterinary care immediately.
And we're so glad we did! After giving Gramps fluid and supportive care, we took the puppies to Animal Emergency & Critical Care of Lynchburg for treatment. Gramps had just started showing symptoms, and the veterinarian said that we had caught it very early, increasing his chances of surviving. The puppies stayed overnight, and in the morning both puppies had appetites!
Pixie and Gramps were placed in a foster home immediately so we did not risk spreading parvovirus in the shelter. We're estimating the cost of caring for the puppies will be about $3000, which includes the cost of going to the emergency hospital. Any support would be very appreciated. Your donation will help save Gramps and Pixie!
