Black Maternal Health Legacy Scholarship

Black mothers in the United States face a maternal mortality rate three to four times higher than that of white mothers—an injustice caused by structural inequities, historical neglect, and persistent gaps in access to quality care. The Black Maternal Health Legacy Scholarship was created to address these disparities at their root by investing in the students who will become tomorrow’s changemakers in maternal health.

This scholarship supports U.S. high school seniors, undergraduates, and master’s students who are pursuing accredited degrees in public health, nursing, mental health, social work, or related fields. Recipients are students who not only excel academically—with a minimum 3.0 GPA—but who have demonstrated a genuine commitment to advancing Black maternal health through advocacy, research, or community service. Applicants share their vision for impact through a personal essay that reflects their passion, their career aspirations, and their dedication to creating safer, more equitable maternity care for Black women and families.

Award Amount

Each year, selected scholars receive $2,500, awarded based on academic achievement, financial need, and their clear devotion to this critical cause.
