The Phone Call We Refuse to Let Happen Again

There’s a specific dread that comes with certain phone calls—the ones you hesitate to answer because you know it could mean another life lost to violence. For Kristen Perteet and Hassahn Liggins, co-founders of Be The Miracle, this fear is all too familiar. Both have lost loved ones to gun violence, and the trauma of those moments fuels their relentless drive to save others from the same fate.

Hassahn describes it vividly: “I sometimes hate to answer the phone when certain people call because I’m afraid it’s more news about death or violence.” But instead of letting that fear consume them, Kristen and Hassahn transformed it into purpose. They channeled their grief into building Be The Miracle, a movement that empowers children, transforms communities, and stops the cycle of violence in its tracks.

Be Empowered

This program is designed exclusively for young women to help them discover their power and potential. Through mentorship, career development, and workshops that focus on self-esteem, life skills, and leadership, Be Empowered provides a safe space for young women to grow into confident leaders.

Be the Scholar

Education is the foundation of opportunity. Through scholarships, tutoring, and academic workshops, Be The Scholar ensures that young people have the resources to succeed in school and beyond. Your donations help us create pathways to success for students who might otherwise be left behind.

Kingmaker Mentoring

Aimed at boys in grades 6-12, Kingmaker Mentoring builds leaders and warriors for change. By teaching discipline, leadership, and real-world skills, this program gives young men the tools to break cycles of violence and become positive forces in their communities.
