Help us celebrate the resilience of our young musicians and mark the 60th anniversary of BYSO Day!
Every gift made from now until BYSO Day on April 23rd will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000 thanks to an anonymous donor. Your gifts are bringing extraordinary musical experiences to the youth of New England and sharing the joy of classical music across their communities.
This year, donor support is making it possible for our students to collaborate remotely and put together virtual performances and educational tools that are being shared with numerous schools, hospitals, nursing homes, community organizations, and businesses across New England and nationwide.
When you give to BYSO, not only do you make an impact on the lives of our students, but you also make an impact on the lives of so many individuals in our community. In a year full of many challenges, you are bringing joy to so many - and for that, we are incredibly grateful.
BYSO Day History:
On April 23rd, 1961, (G)BYSO had the honor of performing at world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York, performing works by Verdi, Sibelius and Wagner. The orchestra presented a second concert one week later at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall (pictured here). In honor of this momentous occasion, Governor John A. Volpe named April 23rd “Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras Day” in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
This year's celebration of BYSO Day begins on April 11th, 2021 and goes until BYSO Day on April 23, 2021. We are celebrating the incredible resilience of our community and students over a fully remote season. As we look back on this season, we are inspired by the joy that our students have brought to their communities through exceptional classical music.
We hope you'll consider making a donation to help support BYSO students on their journeys to achieve excellence, not only in music, but in every area of their lives.
Every gift made from April 11th to April 23rd will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, by an anonymous donor. This means that your gift will have DOUBLE the impact! $5 turns into $10, $10 into $20, and so on!
BYSO Day Family Orchestra Challenge:
The BYSO Orchestra Challenge is officially back! This challenge is a way to celebrate our students and families as we cap off a unique season of finding new ways to make beautiful music together and staying connected while apart.
See below for more details about how you can earn points for your orchestra. The orchestra with the most points per capita at midnight on BYSO Day (April 23rd), wins a special prize!
Here's how it works:
1.) Earn 1 point by sending us your favorite BYSO photos, memories, and clips of you performing and practicing by filling out this Google Form or emailing Colin Keane, Development Associate, at [email protected].
2.) Earn 1 point by posting your favorite memories on social media with the hashtags #BYSODAY and #BYSOSPIRITDAY, and be sure to tag us @BostonYouthSymphonyOrchestras so we can track your posts!
3.) Earn as many points as you can by making a charitable gift to BYSO and encouraging your friends, family, and colleagues to do the same between now and April 23rd. Choose your orchestra under "teams" above, click the red donate button at the top right of the screen, and then follow the prompts to make your gift. Gifts of any amount earn your team a point, and continue to make the unique and empowering BYSO experience possible for all of our students.
Be sure to follow BYSO on Facebook and Instagram and encourage your friends and family to do the same. We will be sharing updates of the leaderboard over the next two weeks, so be sure to stay tuned!
