The Santa Maria Philharmonic presents Music at the Library Baroque Bliss

Sunday, September 15th, 2024 @ 3:00 pm at Shepard Hall in the Santa Maria Public Library

We are thrilled to present an afternoon of Baroque Bliss, as a part of our Music at the Library series. Join Hilary Clark, cello; Suzan Azaret Davies, piano; Gregory Gorrindo, tenor; Jessica Hoffman, oboe; and Grace Seng, violin for this free concert presented in Shepard Hall of the Santa Maria Public Library, on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 3pm. They will be performing selections from Handel, Albinoni, and Corelli.

The ‘Music at the Library’ series is presented by the Santa Maria Philharmonic Society.

Tickets are at no charge to the public thanks to the generous donation by Judy Frost.

Hilary Clark, cello

Hilary graduated from UC Santa Cruz with BA in music and earned an MM degree (Master’s in Music) from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She has performed with the Chicago Civic Orchestra and other chamber groups and symphonies in the Chicago area. She was awarded a scholarship to study cello performance at UC Santa Barbara in 2006 and was a member of the Young Artists String Quartet at UCSB for 4 years. Now residing in Nipomo, she performs with Symphony of the Vines, Santa Maria Philharmonic, and numerous local chamber groups. Hilary has been a full-time nuclear medicine technologist at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center since 2017. hilaryclarkcello.com

Susan Azaret Davies, piano

Susan enjoys an active career as a pianist and a singer. She has appeared as pianist in recitals at Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall), California State University Summer Arts, Idyllwild Summer Arts, Festival Mozaic, Cabrillo Music Festival, San Francisco Presidio Chapel and numerous Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo area concerts. As a singer she has performed with the Oregon Bach Festival Chorus in Eugene and at Lincoln Center, NYC, and as soloist with the Festival Musica de Morelia, Mexico, San Luis Obispo Master Chorale, Santa Barbara Master Chorale and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. Susan was the Musical Director/Pianist for the Educational Opera Association of Los Angeles, which was awarded an Emmy award for its KCET television special “Opera for Children”. Mrs. Davies is the principal keyboardist for the San Luis Obispo Symphony and Orchestra NOVO, pianist for the San Luis Obispo Master Chorale and music director for St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Pismo Beach. She was staff accompanist and adjunct music faculty at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for 34 years. She holds BM and MM degrees from the University of Southern California.

Gregory Gorrindo, tenor

Gregory has enjoyed a prolific career on the Central Coast as an actor/singer, appearing in plays, musicals, operas, ballets, concerts, and singing for church services all over San Luis Obispo county. He is thrilled to be making his debut with Symphony of the Vines in this concert! Gregory is a resident artist with Opera San Luis Obispo and he has been a featured soloist with the Lompoc Pops Orchestra. As an actor/performer he has appeared with Opera San Luis Obispo, SLO Repertory Theatre, Civic Ballet of SLO, Cambria Center for the Arts, the Central Coast Shakespeare Festival, and many other local companies. By day he teaches Pilates at his own private studio Five Seasons Pilates in Los Osos.

Jessica Hoffman, oboe

Originally from Colorado, Jessica attended UCLA where she majored in Mechanical Engineering and she studied the oboe. As a freelance oboist in LA, Jessica performed with the Los Angeles Music Center Opera, American Youth Symphony, Long Beach Ballet, Los Angeles Symphony and a number of community orchestras. During this time, she shared the stage in ensembles that featured world-class musicians, including Yo-Yo Ma, Emmanuel Ax, Andre Watts and Zubin Mehta. In 2010, Jessica relocated to the Central Coast from Los Angeles. She has appeared as a soloist with the San Luis Obispo Symphony, Santa Maria Philharmonic and Symphony of the Vines. Jessica is currently in her 12th season as principal oboist of the San Luis Obispo Symphony and 10^th season as principal oboist for the Santa Maria Philharmonic. When not playing the oboe, Jessica is in charge of the sustainable engineering and manufacturing improvement groups at Atlas Copco Mafi-Trench.

Grace Seng, violin

Originally from Seattle, Grace Seng started playing the violin at age three and developed her love of orchestra by playing in the Seattle Youth Symphony. She performs with many local music groups including the San Luis Obispo Symphony, Festival Mozaic, San Luis Obispo Master Chorale, and Mariposa String Quartet. Grace is the current SLO Symphony Music Education Manager and conductor of the Preparatory Strings Orchestra with the SLO Youth Symphony. She maintains an active teaching schedule through her private studio and at Cal Poly. Grace holds a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance summa cum laude from Northwestern University and a Master of Music in Violin Performance from the Manhattan School of Music.
