Adolfo's Road to Recovery
Adolfo was found by the side of the road, and it was initially thought that he had been hit by a car and left to die. The dog needed to be transported to the vet, with the expectation that he would likely be euthanized because he couldn’t walk and, although very stoic, appeared to be in a lot of pain.
The vet determined that he was less than a year old and that his injuries were more likely the result of being kicked rather than being hit by a car. X-rays revealed previously fractured ribs that had already healed. This poor puppy had endured a horrible life, and the only way to repair his fractured pelvis was through an extremely expensive surgery at a major veterinary hospital—far beyond our budget. Without this surgery, he would have to be euthanized.
Something about him touched our souls. There was a look in his eyes and a gentleness about him that made us realize this puppy deserved a chance.
Sammie's Friends runs the county shelter, but we were founded to save animals with medical needs like Adolfo, that would otherwise make them unadoptable. Many other shelter would not have made the decision to save an animal with Adolfo's needs. But this is what Sammie’s Friends does—it’s always about the animals.
Disclaimer:
Any funds raised beyond what is needed for the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of Adolfo will be used to support other animals in need at Sammie's Friends. These funds will go toward medical expenses, food, shelter, and other essential services to ensure all animals in our care receive the attention they deserve.
