The Black Basalt Foundation (BBF) was created from a shared belief in the power of resilience — the ability of communities to preserve culture, memory, and dignity even during periods of profound change and uncertainty.
The idea was shaped by individuals connected to southern Syria, including the region of Swaida, where communities are predominantly of Druze heritage, alongside Christian and other long-standing traditions. While this background informs the foundation’s perspective, BBF is a non-political and non-religious organization dedicated to supporting art, cultural expression, and initiatives that promote sustainable and dignified living.
Because the initiative emerged from individuals closely connected to these communities, the current board and team largely reflect that background. As the foundation grows, it intends to expand its network and leadership to include partners and collaborators from diverse backgrounds who share its mission and values.
