Fifteen days of the Blessing Shed remain unfunded for 2024.

The Blessing Shed is open four days a week, including evening and weekend hours, to fight food and hygiene insecurity in, and around, Richlands, North Carolina.

Every month, we provide hundreds of individuals and families with essential nonperishable food, personal care products, period products, diapers, and wipes through The Blessing Shed, located in downtown Richlands, 111 Kinston Hwy., allowing it to be centrally located.

Our mission is simple yet profound: to share hope, one item at a time. We believe that no one should have to face the harsh realities of hunger or lack access to basic hygiene necessities. With the increasing demand for our services, we rely heavily on the generosity of donors like you to continue making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

More than 530 people visited the Blessing Shed in August. Among them is Echo, who learned about the Blessing Shed on Facebook.

The 45-year-old Jacksonville resident is a cancer patient who has received food and feminine products from the Blessing Shed.

She’s also picked up diapers and kids bath wash for a neighbor.

She is a cab driver, running clients where they need to go, when she’s not in chemo or radiation. She opted to drive from the Jacksonville hotel where she lives to Richlands to visit the Blessing Shed because she “heard good things” about the outreach.

“I like that you guys keep it clean. I like that there are cameras. I like that you guys are helping the community. I like that you guys have womanly products and baby wipes,” she said. “… You guys are a blessing.”

Other guests we recognize by sight, like Faye who visits in hopes of finding a gluten-free item or two.

The 77-year-old widow lives off social security. A Richlands native, she requires gluten-free due to health complications.

“It’s very pricey in the store,” she said.

Faye doesn’t qualify for government assistance and, as a result, doesn’t qualify for many private programs.

“There are older people like me that come up here. They just have their social security check. As one that’s been coming here for a while, I appreciate everything …. It has helped the community, it has helped us and especially the older people who only have so much to get what they need,” she said.
