Bringing safe and inventive chamber music to our Southern California community during the era of social distancing.

We are members of the Pacific Symphony, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and Hollywood recording industry who love playing music together and for our community. After all live concerts were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March, we started Block x Block to provide safe, FREE,  meaningful musical events for our friends and neighbors. 

 Our concerts span many different musical styles, from Appalachian fiddle music to klezmer to Scandinavian folk. Nearly all the music we play has been custom arranged by our own members. 

The reaction to our initial neighborhood concerts was so overwhelming that we soon began expanding our geographical footprint and our online presence. We are in the process of producing concerts throughout Orange County and Los Angeles County and we are working on recording our first album consisting entirely of original arrangements and transcriptions.

In addition to our performances, we have also used our new platform to raise money to fund full scholarships for young composers of color to participate in the Salastina Chamber Society’s Sounds Promising apprentice program. Thanks to our fundraising efforts, Salastina has decided to expand the program to reach even more young musicians. 

Although we provide every performance completely free of charge, there are significant costs to producing these concerts. These costs include music notation software, music stands, promotional materials, website costs, and recording costs. Our goal is also to provide honorary fees to each musician to help cover living costs while our normal performing and recording careers are suspended indefinitely.
