In September 2023, Brent Sibley sat down with the Combat Control Foundation for an informal interview to talk about his son Forrest who was killed in action and how Brent was introduced into the world of Combat Control.

Brent Sibley lived, truly lived each day for America, his graceful and beautiful Fiancé and partner in crime, Mona, his daughter Jordan, who he spent hours bragging about, and the Special Tactics and Combat Control brotherhood that his decorated war hero son Forrest, introduced him to almost 20 years ago.

Staff Sergeant Forrest B. Sibley was assigned to the 23 Special Tactics Squadron. Later, he was assigned to the 24th Special Tactics Squadron before arriving at the 21 Special Tactics Squadron.

Staff Sergeant Sibley deployed four times, three to Afghanistan and once to Africa.

His military awards included a Bronze Star Medal with Valor, three Bronze Star Medals, two Purple Hearts, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Air Force Combat Action Medal.

On August 26, 2015, Forrest was on another combat deployment in Afghanistan with his Army Green Beret teammates and fellow Special Tactics brother, Matt Roland. Tragically, both Matt and Forrest were killed in combat. The Special Tactics community was devastated by this loss.

Despite the immense sorrow and shattered world without Forrest, Brent chose to live. Each day, he truly lived and loved life. Amidst the ongoing pain and anguish no father should experience, Brent celebrated Forrest’s life and made every moment count.

Brent embraced Forrest’s teammates from the Army Special Forces and the Air Force Special Tactics/Combat Control community, building a legacy that would outlive us all.

As a Gold Star father, Brent became a distinguished guest at numerous squadron events, changes of command, retirements, officer commissioning ceremonies, weddings, deployment send-offs, and welcome-home events.

He generously hosted gatherings, shared countless conversations, shooting matches, bourbons, and phone calls with America’s most decorated commandos.

At his core, Brent became a brother, confidant, father, and teammate within one of the most insular communities in the world—a trusted ally. While the men sought to "take care" of Brent, he, in turn, cared for, shaped, mentored, and loved the commandos he adopted as his own family.

He did the impossible by surviving Forrest’s loss and embracing every delinquent, degenerate, and astray warrior, sending them off to war year after year. He raised them to be honorable men and savages in combat who would return home to be loving dads and husbands.

Brent loved the men, affectionately referring to them as "my guys," with a twinkle in his eye. He provided peace to their often troubled hearts with his bear hugs, early morning hunts, live music, and Alabama drawl.

While his reunion with Forrest this week was undoubtedly epic, Brent’s greatest motivation was to care for Mona and Jordan and ensure “his guys” had a place to decompress and remember Forrest’s legacy.

Central to Brent’s vision of honoring Forrest’s dream and legacy was the establishment of a 100-acre hunting and family outdoor recreation property in Southern Alabama, known as "Forrest’s Land" or "FoLand."

Brent dedicated hundreds of hours to improving the property, creating hiking and hunting trails, protecting the wildlife, planting food plots, digging wells, building shooting ranges, and constructing campsites and cabins.

He worked alongside “his guys,” providing them a place to reset their tired bodies and hearts after war or to prepare their minds for another combat deployment.

FoLand exists today as a living dream, a project, and a legacy of both Brent and Forrest. It speaks to a warrior’s need to connect with nature, find peace and purpose, and reconnect with loved ones. We need help to finish this project and continue to take care of Brent’s boys and America’s warriors.

The purpose of this fundraiser is threefold:

To ensure that Brent receives the funeral he deserves by assisting with the expenses for this unpredictable tragedy.
To be prepared for any unforeseen expenses that will arise in the coming months due to Brent’s passing and make sure the Sibley family gets the help they need.
To continue Brent and Forrest’s legacy for generations to come. This will build upon the previous work done by the caretakers of FoLand, the Lower Case Dooms Block Party and friends of The Sibley Family to ensure the Special Tactics Community always has a connection to the legendary Brent and Forrest Sibley at the premiere outdoor retreat, FoLand.
