“One Round, A Thousand Thanks”

Every year, just as spring warms the fairways, a special group of people come together — not just to play golf, but to honor heroes.

It started three years ago with a simple idea: to build something more than a tournament — a place where gratitude could be expressed through camaraderie, competition, and a strong sense of community.

That idea became the Burbank VFW Memorial Golf Tournament, an annual tribute to the men and women who served far from home so we could live in peace here at home. Many of them walk among us quietly — in grocery store lines, in little league stands, at the post office. They don’t ask for recognition, but they deserve it more than anyone.

The proceeds from this tournament go straight to the heart of our mission: to support local veterans — some who have returned from war carrying visible scars, and many more who carry the invisible weight of service. The Burbank VFW provides them with emergency housing assistance, mental health support, meals, and above all — a place to belong.

Last year, your generosity helped cover green fees for over a dozen veterans who might not have been able to play. One of them, Aaron Jimenez, told us afterward:

“It wasn’t just about golf. It was the first time in a long time I felt seen. I remembered who I was before the hard times. And for four hours, I felt peace.”

This year, we invite you to be part of that healing. A $150 donation can sponsor a veteran to play. A larger gift helps us continue critical programs year-round — from getting them the benefits they need to PTSD peer groups.

Because while one round of golf may only last a few hours, the impact we can have on a veteran’s life? That can last a lifetime.
