When a senior dog enters a shelter, their future is often heartbreakingly short. With gray muzzles and slower steps, they are the first to be overlooked and too often the first to be euthanized. Yet, these dogs have given a lifetime of loyalty and love—they deserve peace and dignity, not abandonment.

That’s why we created Elderleash, a program dedicated to saving senior dogs and giving them the golden years they deserve.

Now, we have the chance to do even more. On our Berkshire Farm Sanctuary property, there is a building waiting to be transformed into a Senior Dog Sanctuary—a place where older dogs will have cozy beds, warm fireplaces, medical care, and the love they’ve been denied.

✨ But we cannot do this without you. Renovating this building into a safe haven will take resources—and every donation brings us one step closer.

What We Will Provide:

Emergency Shelter Pulls: Rapid rescue of senior dogs at risk of immediate euthanasia.
Comprehensive Medical Care: Includes diagnostics, surgery, medications, heartworm treatment, dental care, and pain management.
A Sanctuary Setting: A safe place where dogs can heal and adjust while we search for their forever families and if not, they will stay with us.
Adoption Placement: We match each dog with adopters who understand and appreciate the joy of senior companionship. Many of these dogs will be adoptable, they will not need our forever home. Our goal is to give them the best quality life possible.

Elderleash isn’t just a program. It’s a promise—that no senior dog will be forgotten, abandoned, or left behind simply because of their age. With your help, we can change the story for these beautiful souls.

ABOUT US;

Every living being shares the will to live. Our founder, Dori Scofield has devoted nearly 40 years to animals whose right is taken away by cruelty, neglect, or abandonment. She has dreamed of a sanctuary where fields are there for running, where the broken can be healed, and where those that have been caged and terrified can live, finally, at peace.

Berkshire Farm Sanctuary is such a place—a place where we can extend our rescue mission to include farm animals… those who have been faced with slaughter, factory exploitation, auctions, and whose lives have been wrought with fear and loneliness. .

Acres of grassy fields, barns, and facilities for on-site veterinary care are a few of the plans this sanctuary will offer. But within the perimeter of this safe-haven is the most important healer of all...love.

Saving these lives is not our only mission. We plan to provide an educational program where people can experience the individual personality of each animal, to become kindred spirits and therefore begin to understand the changes we must make in our own lives to stop the exploitation of animals for food and consumer products. This is just the beginning…It’s a wonderful life!
