At Special Connections, we will provide inclusive outdoor and indoor recreational activities for individuals with special needs and disabilities, which includes the use of adaptive bikes and other mobility equipment.

We will help that discouraged mom who feels like she can’t take her child with disabilities out in public to have fun. It's for the exhausted and hopeless special needs parent that never gets a break and no one can relate to their life. For the Dad that wants to see his son or daughter with Autism smile by doing an activity they enjoy. The parent that is desperate for some time to relax and enjoy nature, even if it is just for a little bit. We will give Mom and Dad a place to come where there are other families just like theirs to connect and support one another. Trained volunteers will be giving adaptive bike rides, wheelchair rides, or wagon rides in a safe environment to special needs individuals and family members. The events will typically take place at, but not limited to, parks, school track fields, churches, or other indoor facilities.

My husband, Jason, and I were these parents for many years! We have a 19-year-old son, Caleb, who has severe Autism and is non-verbal. We also have 2 other sons, ages 17 and 11. Caleb lives in a group home now and with us on the weekends. He is thriving in his group home and we couldn’t be more thankful for where he is, however life was very hard, stressful, and sometimes hopeless before this. We always wished for a place for our son to have fun, be accepted, and where our family could feel included. We had family and our church that always supported and loved us, but many people that don’t have these connections or resources are left feeling isolated and alone.

After Caleb moved into his group home, we developed a love for special needs individuals and their families with a desire to connect and build relationships with them. We have been serving, volunteering, and leading in the special needs ministry for several years. I have surrendered my life to this calling to love and serve this community. In September I left my full-time corporate job to pursue starting and building up Special Connections full time. It is the biggest step of faith we have ever taken, but we know our life is to share our story of Hope and God’s Love.

Your tax-deductible donations will help purchase these adaptive bikes, mobility equipment, utility trailers to transport equipment, and insurance. The average cost for one adaptive bike can range between $3,000 - $3,500 (check out our Facebook page for some videos of the bike we are looking to purchase). Your donations will also help with other community events and recreational activities we want to bless these families with. We know that with generous donors, such as you, we can have this operating very soon!
