In 1996, 14 kids learned to play steel pans in Lorna Green's basement. Two weeks later, they performed "The Star-Spangled Banner" for the Olympic torch ceremony.

That moment sparked something extraordinary.

Today, the Cultural Academy for Excellence (CAFE) has transformed the lives of over 500 young people across the DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia region. Our students don't just learn music. They learn discipline, leadership, and the confidence to pursue their dreams.

Through our Saturday Academy, students ages 6-18 receive music theory instruction, steel pan training, academic tutoring, and mentorship from dedicated professionals. The steel pan, born from Caribbean heritage and ingenuity, teaches them that excellence is achievable when discipline meets passion.
