Our grandson is 13 and is in junior high! Math is his favorite subject, and he loves reading the books he chooses! He keeps up with his old friends and has made many new friends, too … in fact, he loves the freedom of riding his bike to his friends’ homes. He continues his piano and guitar lessons -- and now he has a new, full set of drums which he plays daily in his basement, as well as playing other instruments in his school’s music class. He still enjoys making elaborate Lego creations, piecing together complex jigsaw puzzles and playing clever table games -- and still has lots of energy for shooting baskets on his driveway. He continues to play soccer and baseball in leagues for older players, and he relishes the family’s annual summer family trips. His 8-year-old sister has lots of her own friends, but her brother remains her absolute all-time favorite!

He remains "healthy" because his parents are 150% diligent, making sure he continues to take over 25 treatments each day (multiple enzymes, antibiotics, inhaled nebulizer treatments, breathing treatments & airway clearance therapies, basic nutrition through a port in his tummy). But what if this year he catches a cold he can't shake and his lung function drops and doesn't recover? What if this is the year where he catches a more serious infection and has to spend weeks in the hospital and months in extra treatment? What started as a small-scale fundraiser in the Kramer-Golinkoff’s living room has turned into so much more. With dozens of research grants funded; $42.8M in follow-on funding secured; a cystic fibrosis (CF) gene therapy company launched, acquired, and advancing two gene therapy candidates towards clinic; and a clinical trial matchmaking program developed to help speed clinical trial recruitment; Emily’s Entourage (EE) has come a long way since those early days!

From the lab to trials and through regulatory approvals, we are teeing up all steps of the drug development process so that the moment a therapy is ready, it reaches people with CF in record speed.
