Class of 2025 graduates and CAP students
I lost my dad at a young age and didn’t have it easy growing up. I attended a large public high school with no college counseling and a small percentage of students who went on to college. I recall a fellow classmate’s mom trying to step in as some sort of de facto college counselor (she would undoubtedly be a CAP volunteer today!). Not very savvy or able to afford test prep, I took the SAT “cold” and managed to do well enough to attend an amazing public university I could afford. My exposure to the world of private school has been through my own kids, and while I am grateful for the resources they have the privilege of which to avail themselves, I am literally struck every day by the disparities between the world of private and underfunded public schools. I hope to share any insights I have gleaned along my own personal journey to support disadvantaged public school kids like I once was.
Please join me for CAPtoberfest on Sunday, October 5. It's a fun, casual event that raises essential funding to aid trained, expert postsecondary advisors in preparing underserved students and their families for college access and success.
With nearly 1,400 (82%) of its students impacted by the Eaton Fire (losing their homes or displaced), CAP became a relief and recovery organization overnight, which is why investment in their mission is more important than ever.
Meet some of the CAP staff and learn about their post-fire efforts. 💙 Read more about CAP in this article from their partners at the California Community Foundation here.
I hope you will join me in supporting CAP's mission by making a donation or purchasing CAPtoberfest tickets today! 🥨
