Ms. Beulah Providence has been the driving force behind the Caribbean Foundation of Boston since its inception, serving as its Executive Director and the face of the organization for over five decades.

Born in Dominica, Ms. Providence emigrated to the United States in 1960 and initially worked as a housekeeper. In 1968, she received an MLK, Jr. Scholarship to attend Northeastern University, where she studied community organization and social institutions. This opportunity laid the foundation for her life’s work, giving her the skills and vision to create an agency that would uplift and support the most vulnerable members of the community.

It is in recognition of Dr. King’s legacy and the impact of that scholarship that she continues to host the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Appreciation Awards Banquet, a celebration of those who, like her, have dedicated their lives to service, justice, and empowerment.

Through the Caribbean Foundation of Boston, Ms. Providence sought to train and employ local residents to provide a wide range of homemaking, home health aide, and companionship services to frail elders and individuals with disabilities in the urban community. Her mission has not only created vital job opportunities but has also fostered a close-knit community of trainees, workers, and clients who share a common culture and commitment to care.

Her work ensures that caregivers have first-hand knowledge of the communities they serve, allowing them to meet clients' needs in ways traditional agencies often cannot. Decades later, Ms. Providence remains steadfast in her mission, continuing to advocate for those in need while celebrating the unsung heroes who make a difference every day.
