My name is Georgina Fofana, and I joined Chicago Fair Trade because it reflects who I am at my core. I was born and raised in Ghana, where I witnessed both the beauty of handmade craft and the challenges artisans face when their work isn’t valued fairly. That experience shaped me into an educator, storyteller, and advocate; someone who believes deeply in fairness, dignity, and cultural preservation. Becoming a member of Chicago Fair Trade has given me a sense of belonging. It connects me with others who share my belief that trade should uplift people, not exploit them. I’ve gained knowledge, mentorship, and friendships that strengthen my work with artisans and communities, both in Ghana and here in the U.S. This fundraiser matters to me because Chicago Fair Trade is more than an organization; it’s a movement that allows my values to live in action.
