The Carolina Headache Foundation’s PRIME Initiative is a high-impact training program tackling a critical gap in healthcare: migraine education for family medicine residents.
- 90% of patients seeking care for recurrent headaches in primary care settings have migraine.
- Over two-thirds of family medicine residents report having less than two hours of migraine-specific training.
Mission of PRIME
To empower Family Medicine Residents with the tools and training to confidently diagnose and manage migraine—improving patient outcomes statewide.

- Family doctors are the first—and often only—point of care for people with headache disorders.
- Each trained provider will treat hundreds to thousands of migraine patients over their career.
- PRIME directly addresses 'headache deserts' in North Carolina where specialist care is inaccessible.
