a safe and affirming space for transgender and queer individuals to explore our authentic selves. we will offer identity affirming stuff like: clothes, shoes, wellness resources, community gatherings, cuts, color, facials, identity and style coaching and more... all FREE OF CHARGE!

"come as you are, leave more like yourself"

the CHNG organization hosted our very first fashion show in 2023. we put out an open model call and every model was welcomed enthusiastically. the theme of the show was monochromatic rainbow looks to celebrate queer joy. looks were chosen in collaboration with models and the main stylist, eliza lowther, who owns buttercup salon. we threw the whole thing together in less than two months with all donated, thrifted and upcycled clothing. a good friend built the runway, another hooked us up to their professional sound system, a local artist volunteered to do all the makeup looks. it was a chaotic and glorious celebration of our queer community in taos, nm.

SO we decided to do it all again. only this year, even bigger and more impactful. we landed on the theme "merry resistmas" this show will reflect the myriad of feelings that we are all having in this political climate. it became even more evident how important community, visibility and expression are. we had been trying to figure out how to fit a styling and affirming free resource into the buttercup space. in the midst of planning for merry resistmas, the commercial space next to buttercup unexpectantly became vacant. at this point we already had a large collection of clothing and accessories and when the community started becoming aware of a possible permanent space, the clothing donations started rolling in.

the support for this initiative has been absolutely overwhelming and has only affirmed how needed a resource like this really is in rural new mexico. suddenly it all clicked, we had a new home for the community closet we had been envisioning. whether your feeling gender dysforia, anxiety about a new career, excitement about putting yourself back out there, or anything in between. everyone deserves to feel safe, affirmed, supported and have your 90's shopping montage fantasy lived out in real life.

we have the volunteer base, we have free professional styling & coaching, we have the clothes (and keep finding more) and we have the passion. what we need now is the dough to pay the rent and utilities. we also welcome donations of time and skill from professionals. thank you so much for being a part of this journey and feel free to reach out with any questions! we love you
