The Catholic Multicultural Center (CMC) has set up a fund to help its clients affected by detention and/or deportation. The fund will provide affected family members with temporary, emergency assistance for rent, transportation, or food/household goods when a primary income-earner in the household has been detained or deported. Extra funds raised will support the Immigration Legal Services Program and other critical CMC services to immigrants.
We offer a special thanks to study participants from “Journeys Across the World: A Catholic Look at Immigration”, a collaboration between the CMC and Our Lady Queen of Peace/St Thomas Aquinas parishes’ Racial Justice Committee aimed at raising awareness on current teachings about immigration and what we can do to support our immigrant brothers and sisters. With our fundraising goal, CMC aims to help eight families through the remainder of 2025.
To qualify for this fund, individuals or families must meet the following requirements:
- Have been using a CMC service(s) for at least 3 months
- A primary wage earner in the same household has been detained or deported within the past 2 months
- If the family member detained has a record, it is for a non-violent offense
- Acknowledge that this assistance is one-time, temporary support that CMC is not obligated to maintain beyond provision of initial assistance
