CMC Summer Appeal 2024

When you think about the family stories that tell how you came to live in the United States in 2024, do you think back generations? Do you think proudly of your heritage and family history? Do you think about the incredibly difficult times your ancestors endured? For many we serve at the Catholic Multicultural Center (CMC), the stories of their journeys to this country are recent memories, yet each of our stories brought us to this place, at this time. I like to think about this as a beautiful tapestry, our stories weaving together to create the rich community I am lucky to serve.

One of the threads in our communal story is Johane's. Originally from Haiti, Johane arrived in the United States with her husband seeking more opportunities and a better life. Their journey was arduous, spanning ten countries before they found themselves here. At CMC, Johane discovered a supportive place to learn English in CMC’s ESL classes, but thanks to a flyer she saw on our bulletin board, she is now cultivating her talents in the kitchen through our Culinary Creations program, which is teaching her skills like how to work in a group, and creative problem-solving. What started as a search for language skills has transformed into a pathway toward her dream of becoming a Medical Assistant, a goal she now sees as achievable in the near future.

Thank you for being a valuable donor to the CMC’s mission, because of you, Johane's story is possible. It is just one among many in our communal tapestry that illustrates the impact of your generosity. Your support enables us to provide essential programs that empower individuals like Johane to realize their full potential and one day, give back to the community.
