The remnants of Typhoon Halong -- which originated in the northern Philippine Sea on October 5 -- intensified the widespread significant weather impacts and massive flooding to western regions of Alaska on October 12th and 13th.
Destructive wind and significant coastal flooding were the main impacts from the storm as it swept up across Alaska's west coast. Numerous locations across western Alaska reported wind gusts of 40 - 60 mph, and major coastal flooding hit communities along the coast as storm surge levels were more than 6 feet above normal high tide levels.
We are conducting an ADVON deployment to provide damage and needs assessments, logistics coordination, local partner coordination and volunteer response management in affected areas. Our team will work in partnership with local authorities and non-governmental organizations and in coordination with State and Tribal authorities.
We aim to raise $10,000 to fund this mission, and we need your support. Your donation will go ONLY to the mission to help the survivors of this storm - not overheads or administrative costs. We are coordinating the delivery of food, water, hygiene items, cleaning items, and lighting. Part of your donation will go to enable our volunteers on the ground, including local transportation, logistics and equipment needed. Partners Airlink have already committed to providing airfare free-of-charge to this mission.
No contribution is too small; every dollar counts in providing relief and hope to those affected. You can donate by clicking on the "Donate Now" button for a secure online transaction.
