In 1927, a young Reverend and his wife took an uncharted course to create an inclusive space for a marginalized group of young people in the mountains of Vermont. After traveling and speaking at the summer camps of the affluent, Rev. Walter Thorpe felt so strongly that the Vermont summer experience should be available to everyone, regardless of their means or ability, that he set out to create Camp Thorpe.

This was a radical idea at a time when most individuals with disabilities were considered a burden on society and most would have been institutionalized and hidden away. Reverend and Verna Thorpe bucked convention and created the home-away-from-home we now call Camp Thorpe.

Over the past 99 years, Camp Thorpe has been a beacon of joy to more than ten thousand campers and hundreds of counselors and staff. The Thorpes' revolutionary approach to an inclusive summer experience, which offers opportunities for social development and friendships that last a lifetime, has transformed lives. We all continue to be inspired by their work.

Now more than ever, welcoming spaces like Camp Thorpe need our support. Your role is crucial in continuing the legacy of Camp Thorpe. Please consider a tax-deductible gift to help make Camp Thorpe's 99th year a magical journey for all of our campers! We are raising $25,000 to support our summer programming. This includes our Garden to Table program, where campers help tend our small garden beds, which grow vegetables for our kitchen and provide our campers with a better understanding of where their food comes from. Funds raised will also help maintain our facilities, such as the upkeep of our zero-entry 100-foot-by-50-foot pool, a highlight of our campus and one of the favorite activities at Camp for our campers.

For 99 years, Camp Thorpe has been a home away from home for our campers, but we cannot continue to offer this without your support!
