Please, don’t miss your opportunity to support a Connecticut child’s individual right to be “Free to Learn, Grow and Thrive” through expanded educational opportunities by supporting the Connecticut Parents Union (CTPU) Strengthening Vulnerable Families in Public Education Campaign

Connecticut Parents Union (CTPU) is an all-volunteer statewide parent -led community group that formed on January 14, 2011. We fight for fair access to expanded educational opportunities for all children, regardless of zip-code. Our mission is to ensure that parents, guardians, and families are connected with the necessary educational resources and support systems necessary to ensure that neither race, zip-code or socio-economic status will be predictors of their children’s' academic and life success.

In 2011, with unwavering support from Connecticut families and parents from across the country literally, CTPU led community and legislative fights that resulted in a 2013 law that stopped the felony arrest of parents, mostly single parents, and women of color, for school residency violations aka zip-code laws.

Since 2011, our statewide and national advocacy has resulted in CTPU serving to date:

Several hundred diverse parents throughout the State of Connecticut

Six thousand two hundred (6,200) students throughout the state of Connecticut and Massachusetts through our annual Tis the Season to be Reading & All Aboard the Parent Express tour. Ten (10) cities in three (3) giving away 1000 books and hosting educational activities that promote family engagement.

Several hundred educators and administrators, throughout Connecticut and nationally, through various workshops and presentations. This includes 2015. CTPU presented a workshop at the U.S. Department of Education is Washington D.C. entitled “Owning Your Parent Power – Changing the Rules of the Game.”

CTPU presented several workshops to Colorado educators at the Educating Children of Color Summit.

Fast forward to now. Vulnerable children and families are struggling to keep their heads afloat in an educational climate that centers adult agendas over a kids first agenda in post pandemic recovery efforts in education.

Please help CTPU help parents and guardians protect the educational rights of their children to be in a kids first agenda in public education. The time is now to EXPAND educational opportunities.
