We would like to introduce you to one of our newest listeners. “Sarah” called our office recently wanting to know how to get our programming. She said she is blind, has autism, and lives in a group home with four other residents.

Sarah said she had an Alexa smart speaker, so one of our staff was able to talk her through the process of telling Alexa to “open the Niagara Frontier Radio Reading Service.” It took only a few minutes over the telephone and our service is always free.

Soon, we could hear our programming in the background of the call. Sarah said she could hear our programming - and then she started to cry.

Sarah said she was so excited to get our programming. She thanked us over and over again. And she called later to say all the residents in her group home were now listening. Now that Sarah is on our mailing list, she will also receive our Program Schedules in braille as they come out.

Sarah is one of 130,000 people in the Western New York-Rochester-Southern Ontario region with vision loss, physical or learning disabilities, or other reading challenges who would benefit from our programs - if we could only reach them.

We're the only 24/7 nonprofit radio station in the western half of New York State that broadcasts local and national newspapers like the Buffalo News and USA Today, magazines like Forbes and People, and books from best-selling and prominent local authors to those who can't read on their own. A team of more than 150 dedicated volunteers read all the content we broadcast, and we depend on donations from individuals and other supporters to operate.
