Greetings friends and supporters,

My name is Captain Omondi (Odero Odero on Facebook), founder and manager of the Kodero Community-Based Permaculture Project in Homa Bay County, Kenya.

I was born here as the last-born in a family of six, and from an early age I learned the meaning of struggle, courage, and community.

After losing my father, I was forced to leave school due to lack of fees—right when hunger and poverty were rising around us.

That painful time pushed me to take action. Through my friend Johanes Den Hoed from the Netherlands, I was introduced to permaculture—simple, sustainable ways of growing food using what nature already provides.

I studied, practiced, and shared what I learned, and that passion became a community initiative where youth, widows, school dropouts, and families learn farming, grow food, rebuild confidence, and move toward self-reliance.

Today, lives are changing: young people are earning income for the first time, families are feeding themselves, and our community is taking back its future with dignity and teamwork.

I am blessed with a loving wife, Violet Awuor, and our daughter, Vaida Adhiambo, who continue supporting and strengthening this mission even as we live apart until I can build a home.

Any contribution—small or large—helps our youth and families continue learning, growing, and building a greener future together.
