This event will not only provide an opportunity to build valuable connections but also offer a comprehensive introduction to dyslexia, including its causes, symptoms, and the critical elements involved in assessment. Attendees will gain an introductory understanding of Orton-Gillingham principles and their application in dyslexia-specific interventions. Additionally, we’ll explore accessible resources, including free and low-cost Orton-Gillingham intervention materials and educational tools, equipping you to better support students with dyslexia. Here are all the details—we look forward to a great day! Date and Time: Friday, October 4th, 2024 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Location: The Catalyst Building, Room 304 601 E Riverside Ave Spokane, WA 99202 We kindly ask for a minimum donation of $35, and a suggested donation of $50 to help us bring this Champions for Dyslexia workshop to life. *No refunds unless we cancel the event for some unforeseen reason. 0.3 ASHA CEUs Note: Limited seating available. Course Learning Objectives: - Define dyslexia and discuss causes and symptoms - Demonstrate introductory level understanding of what is needed in dyslexia assessment - Describe basic Orton Gillingham principles and how they are applied to dyslexia specific intervention - Identify access to free and low cost Orton Gillingham intervention materials and dyslexia educational resources Speakers: Alicia Weeks, MS, CCC-SLP - Co-Founder of the INW Dyslexia Alliance, Owner of Niche Therapy Alicia earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Politics and Fine Art from UC Santa Cruz om 2007. In 2014, she moved to Spokane, WA, to complete a post-baccalaureate in Speech Sciences and Disorders at Washington State University, followed by a Master’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Eastern Washington University. Alicia is a licensed SLP in Washington and Idaho, specializing in dyslexia diagnosis and intervention. Nicki Bullick, M.Ed, C-SLCT - Owner of Optimize Learning, 2nd Grade Teacher Nicki is a Certified Teacher for Kindergarten through 8th Grade in Washington, holding certification from OSPI since 2017. She earned her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Whitworth University and her Bachelor’s Degree in Speech, Hearing, & Communication Disorders from Eastern Washington University.
