No cat deserves what Chungus has been through; it's why we are determined to give him a wonderful life.
Chungus is a huge cat with an equally big, sweet personality. Rescued in rural North Carolina, we were preparing to transport him to the DC area when something unexpected happened.
Like many cats we rescue, Chungus is FIV+ and needed veterinary care that we presumed would be fairly routine: some dental work and a procedure to correct entropion, an inward-growing eyelid. A Shelter Friend, a generous NC rescue, funded his procedure, but shelter staff were troubled by his apparent difficulty in breathing. An x-ray revealed something tragic; Chungus had been shot and was never treated. His lungs were riddled with shotgun pellets, including fragments which had lodged in his airway.
Chungus went into emergency surgery to save his life and we're thrilled to report that he made it through. After a night spent in an oxygen tank and some scary moments he's now on the mend.
We were determined to give Chungus a chance at a happy life, but as a rescue that must raise each penny it spends on the 1000+ pets we save each year, unexpected veterinary costs are a blow. Can you help us with a donation to help us cover these costs?
We promise we will share updates about Chungus, including hopefully sometime soon when he is adopted to a family who will cherish him forever. We think he deserves to be loved and we know you agree.
Thank you for helping Chungus!
