Citadel Athletics

Citadel Christian School (CCS) provides a classical, biblical, and exceptional educational experience for all students. Citadel Christian School…Building a Legacy of Truth. In building a legacy of truth, CCS includes physical exercise and athletics, which has not always inherently been a part of classical education.

CCS recognizes the multitudes of character-building and virtue-cultivating aspects an athletics program contributes to each student-athlete’s education. Athletics serves as a forum for the test and implementation of virtue and personal responsibility in a competitive world.

A classically trained student lives in a world that does not normally pursue virtue or sacrifice on behalf of others; therefore, student-athletes must learn how to exercise virtue within a world hostile to the aims of their education. When a CCS student-athlete is participating on their sports team, they are to give it their best, with the intent to achieve a victory. CCS student-athletes will always perform within given authority (coaches, referees, regulations), and exercise honorable character. These goals are not only important during athletic competitions but are also to be reflected in their daily disciplined living. Student-athletes will learn and practice more than the fundamentals of sports and physical strength but be equipped for navigating life in a competitive world without sacrificing truth, goodness, or beauty.

Athletic participation serves to allow student-athletes to develop and demonstrate their skill, knowledge and conduct for the purpose of triumph. The instruction and execution of athletics at CCS ensures that our student-athletes’ virtues are rightly ordered. In other words, virtues of stature, strength, and speed must be secondary to virtues of honor, integrity and sportsmanship. CCS and our coaches understand that developing our student-athletes during practice and competition, prepares them to demonstrate the eternal effects of their speech and actions as they represent themselves, their families, their school and ultimately God. Ultimately, all student-athletes will demonstrate glory to God and build a legacy of truth with their speech, relationships, unity, motives and behavior.

  •  Speech: Colossians 4:6 “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt…”
  •  Relationships: John 15:12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
  •  Unity: Ephesians 4:12-13 “… for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.”
  • Motives: Psalm 96:8 “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts!”
  •  Behavior: I John 2:6 “He who says he abides in Him out himself also to walk just as He walked.
