Clementine Borden's Story

Hi! My name is Clementine Borden and I am a sophomore at Special Music School.

I first started rowing this past summer and immediately fell in love with it.

I am endlessly grateful for my coach Guy Monseair, the seniors, and my teammates for taking me in and teaching me everything they know! Rowing has taught me what it means to be committed to a team, how to manage my time, and how to put in HARD year-round work. These are lessons I will use for the rest of my life.

Being in a boat with girls that all give their all, pushing each other, has been one of the most eye opening experiences I have ever had. Knowing that City Island has accomplished so much in the past, and is continuing to put in the grueling work to keep up our impressive reputation is beyond motivating.

As a non-profit, City Island is dependent on current athletes to give back to live up to the incredible girls in the past that achieved so much to set up our own road to success.

In order to do so, we will have our Annual Ergathon Fundraiser on March 3rd to raise money for all of our equipment. This includes all of our boats, oars, and ergs that have helped us become the nationally ranked team that we are today. The better our equipment, the better we can apply our strength and technique to get the wins we deserve! To say thank you, my teammates and I are going to put in 90 minutes rowing on our ergs to earn your donations!

This is not easy work, but it is something we do as a team and we do it to give back.

Additionally, every athlete that raises 1000 dollars gets to have their name on one of our boats. Since the first time I was on the water with the team, seeing the names of girls who have come before me on the sides of our boats has not only served as motivation, but as inspiration. Having my name on a new boat would mean so much to me and prove in a physical way how committed I am to City Island and bettering myself as a varsity athlete and person.

Thank you so much for supporting City Island Rowing!

Please note that City Island Rowing is an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and 100% of your donation is fully tax-deductible.
