Congress of Communities has been robbed!!
Someone stole CoC’s bouncy houses, brand new lawn mower, and tent.
Detroit, Mi - On Friday, July 18th, Congress of Communities (CoC) was burglarized. A 20x20 industrial tent was stolen at approximately 2 AM from CoC’s grounds.
Then on Friday, August 1st, the maintenance man opened the shed and noticed the bouncy houses and brand new lawn mower were gone. The bouncy houses and lawn mower were last seen on Monday, July 28 in the shed.
CoC is a small but mighty nonprofit organization in Southwest Detroit whose mission is to build leaders and support our neighborhood. The two industrial bouncy houses and large tent stolen were used for big events to bring the community together, specifically families. And the lawn mower loss now makes it difficult for CoC to maintain the 13 vacant lots we care for surrounding our Youth Driven Community House. To make matters worse, this theft happened just a week before our annual Summer Splash event that will take place on Saturday August 9th 2-5pm. This caused CoC to have to rent equipment to take the place of the stolen equipment to ensure the event was successful.
The loss amounts to over $11,500, and CoC hopes to recuperate that money to continue hosting events for children and their parents in the neighborhood.
