My name is Maya Pitts and I am one of the co-founders of Hawks FC. On November 3rd, I’ll be running the NYC Marathon to raise funds for Hawks FC. These funds will help us offer young girls the chance to thrive in soccer without financial barriers, programs to support our players beyond the field, and create a diverse, empowering environment where they can reach their full potential, both on and off the pitch.

From the moment I started kicking the ball, soccer has been a constant in my life, shaping who I am. I was lucky enough to play all the way to the professional level, fulfilling a dream that would have made 12-year-old Maya beam with pride. This year, I turn 30—a milestone that also marks 25 years since I first joined a soccer team at 5 years old.As my competitive playing years begin dwindling down, I have taken on new challenges in life, coaching the game and the newest one, starting up an all-girls soccer club with my best friend. Soccer has given me so much, helping me tackle life's challenges and shaping me into the person I am today. Coaching has been a deeply fulfilling experience—allowing me to be a role model, a coach who looks like my players, understands them, and creates a space where they can grow and make mistakes. However, many girls are still driven away from the game, often due to poor coaching experiences, high costs, and a lack of diversity.My hope is that Hawks FC will be a place where players can love the game to its entirety and gain as many lessons, friends, and opportunities as it has provided for me.
