Aloha! CoconutLine is a 100% community-led volunteer group based in Kihei to support Maui residents impacted by natural disaster.
Following the devastating wildfires of August 8, 2023 displaced Maui residents were in immediate need of food, water, and other basic supplies. Much of the early response came directly from neighbors helping neighbors. CoconutLine was formed August 13th as a supply tent at South Maui Community Park where neighbors came together to help distribute supplies. A few weeks later CoconutLine also opened a clothing shop offering free clothing and shoes to those who had lost everything. In October 2023, as needs continued to evolve, CoconutLine closed the tent location and opened a shop for distributing free home goods. All of this was made possible by the generosity of those who donated their time, goods, and money.
In December 2023 CoconutLine incorporated as a nonprofit in order to create stability and longevity for our organization to continue to be a resource for those in need. We are still 100% volunteer based: neighbors helping neighbors. We are raising funds to support our ongoing operations and be ready for whatever the next steps may bring. Many who were impacted by the August disaster are still in crisis with lack of stable housing and limited resources. The current CoconutLine shops are providing more than just the distribution of free goods – they’ve become a gathering place, a place to share healing stories, a place to connect to other resources and information, and a lifeline to normalcy in times that are still challenging and unpredictable.
We look forward to continuing to build our CoconutLine ohana, because together we can lift each other up and make it through these challenging times. We appreciate your support.
