Join us at Collective Roots APG in our urgent mission to support youth and families during their critical journey of early recovery from substance use. By instilling values of accountability, trust-building, and compassion, we witness remarkable transformations in the growth and resilience of our participants—a testament to the power of our positive alternative peer group (APG).

The harsh reality is that there is no such thing as safe experimentation with drugs and alcohol. With 90% of adults with chronic substance use disorders starting as teenagers, and the fact that drug-related fatalities have become the leading cause of death for Americans under 50, we cannot ignore the issue. Oregon youth are 38% more likely to use substances than youth in other states, and they are dying at a higher rate, too. The need for comprehensive support is urgent!

Teens often seek us out in dire need, having faced serious consequences like overdose, legal troubles, mental health challenges, and academic decline. Others join us at the outset of their journey, recognizing the negative impacts of substance use on their relationships and feeling a loss of control. Regardless of where they are in their struggle, we provide a sanctuary for recovery and mutual support, offering a lifeline for those in need.

Families who complete our program experience remarkable success, propelled by the unwavering support they both receive and extend to each other throughout the challenges of recovery and adolescent development. Our program emphasizes the essential role of family involvement, recognizing that success rates soar when families actively engage in learning and practicing recovery tools while participating in their own peer support. Together, our families navigate through the toughest of times and rejoice in every achievement, fostering a community where no one ever needs to feel alone on their parenting journey.

Collaboration is key to our success. By actively engaging with other organizations, we build a robust support network for our participants, allowing us to focus on our core mission: making recovery enjoyable and fulfilling for teens to prevent relapse. As proud members of the Association of Alternative Peer Groups, we adhere to evidence-based peer support practices, ensuring our programs are effective and impactful.

The Need, and How You Can Help

With summer fast approaching, we face the challenge of raising $20,000 to sustain our programming in the coming months. It costs approximately $250 per week to provide an entire family with the support and individualized case management they need. However, few of our families are able to cover this amount, and we offer a generous sliding fee scale to ensure no one is turned away for lack of ability to pay.
