While throughout my life I was always frustrated by the paperwork stacks, agency hoops, and regulations that it seemed activists and every day people had to battle against every day to try and stand up for their environment. And when I went to law school, I saw how even more entrenched this system was to work against the people and not for the protection of our environment in the way we the people would hope.
But, then the Green Amendment concept was conceived and coined by Maya, who I will always be so proud to call my mother, my best friend, and frankly my hero. I saw how the power of the people, the power of Green Amendments, changed the legal and regulatory landscape. It shifted the scales back in favor of the people. It gave people the platform they always thought they had, and should have had all along, to finally stand up for their environment.
There is no movement like the Green Amendment movement. We need this everywhere.
