Rebuilding Our Community Space

Recently, we received exciting news that we will be receiving a reimbursable grant to rebuild part of our community space! This is a major fundraising success! We need your support to reach these matching funds!

On unceded Mohican land, Finca Luna Búho is an Afro-Indigenous nourished collaborative carespace. We center the voices and decision-making of those living in marginalization.

In 2007, we began carespace to create a rural place of refuge, knowledge-sharing and intimacy-with-land that centers BIPOC, immigrant, queer, trans, poor, and disabled communities. We offer space for gatherings, migrant & anti-imperialist justice organizing, community care, food sovereignty, farming and land connection in reciprocity.

Finca Luna Búho is where people find trusting, inspiring space to collaborate for community flourishing.

For 16 years, the barn on the land was our community space until becoming structurally unsafe. We put a lot of work into keeping it functional for an additional 5 years, but last year we made the big decision to rebuild the space. What is needed is a four season accessible community space for the over 950 community members that bring their love and care together on this land.

In June 2023, we took down our community space by hand. In the first stage of the demolition—on the evening before the roof was removed—we offered ceremony and appreciation to the building that had gifted us such important space over the years. With nearly all of the walls removed, it felt like we were in a treehouse. The trees around us were framed by the beams logged almost 200 years ago from the mountainside! In this moment of reflection, our gratitude met our vision, allowing us to picture the rebuilding of this essential community space with beautiful windows overlooking the river.

The rebuilt community space will have:

a kitchen for our knowledge-shares & processing of herbs/vegetables from the garden,
an open communal gathering space,
a storage area for our community plant medicine and bulk food distribution,
an office & community library.

With great honor and pleasure we continue to nourish the space we offer–and reaffirm our vision for uplifting and centering those in our community of marginalized lived experiences.
