Please help nonprofit Cornerstone Craftsman (IRS application in process) raise the seed funding it needs to train, mentor, and provide essential support for at-risk Alexandria City teens age 12-17 in the skilled trades. Help these young men build a viable career path, earn a livable wage, and realize economic self-sufficiency.

Our teens from vulnerable and underserved communities are in crisis and need jobs and mentoring support to provide them healthy futures. Our mission is urgently needed to effectively counter recent increased rates of juvenile crime, gang activity, substance abuse, and chronic school absenteeism in the Northern Virginia area. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated this crisis and, while it has subsided, these youth are still trying to recover from its devastation.

Demand for our program continues to be very high. A few of us have been carrying out this mission
since January 2022, and we’ve covered the costs out of our own pockets.

We are asking for your support to help us raise start-up seed funding for our 2024 operations while our IRS 501(c)(3) application is being reviewed. You can help ensure that we have the funds needed to carry out this critical mission--providing workforce development skills and healthy futures to Alexandria teens.

Currently, we our program is serving 15 pre-apprentices, and we 30 more are on our wailtist and eager to join our paid pre-apprenticeship program.

Cornerstone Craftsman’s mission is to train and mentor at-risk teens age 12-17 in the skilled trades to open up possibilities for them to earn a livable wage and viable career path to economic self-sufficiency. Our mission was born out of deep desire to decrease juvenile crime rates and gang activity as well as substance abuse, unplanned teen pregnancy, and chronic absenteeism in our local communities.

PS: Cornerstone’s IRS 501(c)(3) application is in process. Any charitable contributions made between our formation (August 2023) and the official date of IRS approval will become tax deductible retroactively at time of approval, and donors will receive an acknowledgement letter for tax purposes shortly after that time.
