Portland Friends of the Dhamma is entering an exciting time of transformation! This June, we're honoring Founding Director Sakula's 25 years of service and leadership, while teacher Jessica Swanson is formally taking up the roles of Spiritual Director and lay minister.

We are thrilled to have Luang Por Pasanno, Ajahn Sudanto, Ajahn Karunadhammo, Debbie Stamp and several other monastics from Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery joining us on June 22 for a day of benefit and transition that we are calling 'Counting Our Blessings.'

Gifts from the community keep our doors open free of charge to all who are interested, and donations are gratefully accepted. We hope your time at PFOD is benefitting your practice and that you enjoy the happiness that comes from generosity. We have several aspirations this year that would benefit from community support.

Welcoming more people to our home.

We'd like to expand our programming and make more space and time available for classes, programs and community gatherings. In January, we said goodbye to a major tenant with No Rank Zendo buying their own building. This was a cloud with an enormous silver lining. We lost $1000 per month of income, but we gained two nights per week and two Saturdays per month that we could make available for programming or community gatherings!

We received a gift to bridge the gap, but that bridge comes to an end this summer. $12,000 would bridge that income gap for another year and give us time to determine whether we can expand programming and meet our financial obligations through programming rather than another tenant.

Possible programs include monthly Dhamma practice groups for various populations (lgbtqia, BIPOC, families, teens, elders, etc.); extended silent sitting periods; daily sitting opportunities; monthly monastic visits; more topic-based classes and daylong workshops.

Beautifying our home.

We'd like to continue to update our Portland Dhamma Center to make it safe and beautiful for all. Possible projects include beautifying and updating the outside, waterproofing the basement, upgrading our heating and cooling system, and repairing plaster.
