Court Support Training with Mark Clements

Thursday, April 3rd, 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM CDT

In Person

Join us April 3rd for a court support training facilitated by Mark Clements. Court support provides an opportunity to stand with someone as they undergo a very isolating experience. It’s helpful in building relationships, documenting what happens in court, and showing the state that those being subject to the legal system have people who care what happens to them. This can have a favorable impact on their case. Mark has many years of court support organizing experience and will teach attendees about the importance and history of court support. He’ll also go through ways to effectively support someone while they’re attending court dates. Masks required and food provided. Mark Clements is a Chicago police torture survivor & Juvenile lifer who was tortured at area three violent crimes unit in 1981. He was sentenced to natural life taking him over 28 years to win his freedom. Since his release he is responsible for helping to free 457 people from prisons across the country. He has worked for the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, Campaign to End the Death Penalty, and Chicago Torture Justice Center. Mark has focus on ending police torture, executions, juveniles sentence to natural life, and wrongful convictions Mark believes that freedom is not gained without struggle and constant pushback against the many systems that have crippled black and brown people all across this country. Court support has allowed for the building of movements as some of you know this to be the case through your work with many different organizations.
