Hi, I’m Kate, and I’m proud to be the coxswain on my school’s crew team. I have muscular dystrophy, and joining crew was the first time I truly felt like I could be part of a sports team—just like everyone else. That’s the magic of this sport: it’s inclusive, empowering, and built on teamwork. This spring, a documentary featuring my story and the incredible support I’ve received from my coaches and teammates will be released. It’s a powerful look at what’s possible when people believe in each other. But here’s the reality—our team is a club sport, which means we receive zero funding from our school or state. The only way we’re able to compete, train, and buy the equipment we need is through support from people like you. Crew is an expensive sport to maintain, but it gives so much back.
