In February 2026, Sankofa Independent School Design convened the first of three curriculum design retreats for Chosen Preparatory Academy, a new independent secondary school in development in Houston. During this initial retreat, a group of experienced educators began shaping the academic foundation of the school by developing student and educator profiles and examining key elements of the academic program.

Two additional curriculum design retreats are scheduled for June 10–11 and November 13–14, 2026. These working sessions will bring together master teachers, instructional leaders, and curriculum designers to continue building a rigorous, college-preparatory program that affirms student identity, cultivates confidence, and supports the development of the whole person.

Grounded in Christian intellectual tradition and informed by Black diasporic intellectual and cultural traditions, the school’s academic approach integrates high expectations with deep care, purpose, and belonging.
