DASA Summer Teams

DASA's Summer teams comprises of individuals that compete in competitions of the following sports;

Swimming, which enhance your abilities as you feel the freedom of being in the water! Our swimmers don't use flotation devices, instead they develop a greater self-awareness of their body and abilities, adaptive swimming emphasizes core strength, body awareness, endurance, and water safety.

Paralympic Powerlifting, open to 8 eligible physical impairments and a range of physical disabilities, including cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, lower-limb amputation, short stature, impaired muscle power, hypertonia, and ataxia amongst a few other disabilities. The bench press is Para-Powerlifting's single discipline, with 10 different categories based on body weight. Competitors must lower the bar to the chest, hold it motionless on the chest, and then press it upwards to arms' length with locked elbows.

Archery, competitive Paralympic Archery is identical to Olympic Archery in that archers shoot 72 arrows from a distance of 70 meters at a target of 122 centimeters, trying to achieve a perfect score of 720. Archery competition is open to male and female competitors of all ages with physical disabilities including those with amputations and limb loss, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries. Athletes can compete either standing or in chairs.

Air Rifle, this Paralympic sport is a test of accuracy and control, in which competitors use air rifles to fire a series of shots at a stationary target. Each athlete is set at an individual station and taught safety when handling the air rifle. Competitors have 60 minutes to do 60 shots.

Track & Field, is for athletes with little or no use of their legs, whom typically use a racing chair to run (racing chair is more efficient if you also have functional use of both arms) and athletes with CP and Visual Impairments typically run and throw standing up. Athletes are classified/evaluated for their strength and coordination and classified in ability-like groups.

Para-Triathlon, is for athletes with the ultimate determination. Competing in the same obstacles as the Olympic triathlon. Athletes swim 750m, cycle 20km, and run 5k.
