At DC International School, our HOSA-Future Health Professionals chapter is on a mission: to empower the next generation of healthcare leaders and close the talent gap in one of the most critical sectors of our economy—healthcare.

Why This Matters

The U.S. faces an unprecedented shortage of healthcare workers. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for healthcare occupations will grow by 13% between now and 2031, faster than any other industry, resulting in 2 million new jobs. By investing in DCI HOSA, you’re helping ensure that a diverse and talented pipeline of students—many of whom come from underrepresented communities—can access high-quality, real-world healthcare leadership experiences before they graduate high school.

What Is DCI HOSA?

DCI HOSA is a thriving student-led organization with over 115 active members in grades 9–12. As part of the international HOSA-Future Health Professionals network, our chapter prepares students to pursue careers in health and medicine while also cultivating transferable leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.

Through competitive events, conferences, community service, and guest speakers, our students learn by doing.

Event costs for local, state, and international competitions
Conference entries such as the Washington Leadership Academy (WLA), Fall Leadership Conference (FLC), Midwinter Leadership Conference (MWLC), State Leadership Conference (SLC) and the International Leadership Conference (ILC)
Leadership sessions and health science workshops
Community Impact Projects: Blood Drive (spring 2024 collected 60+ units of blood) and Mental Health Awareness Week
Mentorship of our new Middle School HOSA Chapter serving 50+ students

Our Impact So Far

Membership grew from 62 to 115+ students in just one year
14 HS students and 9 MS students placed in the Top 3 at the DC State Leadership Conference
15 and 21 students qualified for International Leadership Conference (ILC) in 2024 and 2025, respectively
Hosted 12 guest speaker sessions including DC EMS, physician panels, and public health leaders
Led annual Blood Drive with 60+ donors for the past 3 years
Mentored 52 MS students to launch DCI’s first-ever Middle School HOSA chapter
Organized, supported, and participated in 6 local, regional, State, and International Conferences focused on healthcare leadership, STEM advocacy, and career exploration.
3 DCI HOSA members elected to the DC HOSA State Executive Council
28 HS and 11 MS members served as local chapter officers since 2021
