Our mission is to empower youth and young adults with the services and resources they need to avoid suicide and self-harm, embrace life, and create bright futures through STEMM+ (STEM, Life skills, digital animation, music production, broadcasting, videography, gaming, and philanthropic careers) career exploration and community engagement by improving the effectiveness of and access to high quality mental health services & wrap around support programs.

We believe that when youth are provided with the combination of counseling, engaging suicide prevention programs, and career exploration & guided educational pathways as wrap around support services, can help improve overall mental health and reduce the risk of suicide ultimately improving the effectiveness of suicide prevention programs.

Introducing DDAAT-App!

The DDAAT-App! Initiative is is more than an app or counseling alone. It's an all-hands-on-deck movement to save our kids lives! Utilizing our patent-pending mobile hub, DDAAT-App! provides a single point of access to counseling and research-based educational tools, resources, and our proprietary STEMM+ Community & Behavioral Health Intervention Program aimed at mitigating external factors which may impede success while promoting improved overall outcomes for suicide prevention mental health services.

Youth learn vital suicide prevention strategies, alternatives to self-harm, life skills, social emotional learning, self-advocacy, responsible decision making, & peer support methods as they explore exciting career & educational pathways in STEMM+ (STEM, Life skills, digital animation, music production, broadcasting, videography, gaming, philanthropic) fields.

Community engagement activities an on-demand library allow youth to browse educational, life skill, and motivational videos from mentors, professionals, business and industry leaders, celebrity and professional athletes & musicians sharing valuable lessons learned and tips for entering related career and educational paths place fatherly-advice styled wisdom at the fingertips of the youth when most needed. Each pre-recorded video offers a coordinated lesson plan & parent guides options for subscribing schools and organizations that translate the real-world messages into actionable steps for topics such as goal setting, managing stress & crisis, handling bullying, obtaining a first job, or tips for transitioning to high school or college.

Engaging like no other, youth are able to participate in project-based learning experiences as they use the STEMM+ skills learned in a variety was ways create peer support themed art, music, short films, animation, songs & music videos, create custom video game avatars, or compete in optional school based competitions in robotics, tactical autonomy, and broadcasting and more!  We are committed to improving the effectiveness of and with innovative technology, educational resources, and tools our nation's youth need to avoid suicide & self-harm, embrace life, and create bright futures.

DDAAT-App! is a sole-source multi-plex of cutting edge behavioral, career, and educational tools which help youth to discover personal insight to understanding their own behavioral patterns, strengths or superpowers which help youth understand and self-manage their own behaviors while improving interpersonal relationship skills in school, at home, with peers, and in future working environments.

The Journey of creating DDAAT-App!

My name is Chanda L Spates, and I am the creator of DDAAT-App! and Founder of Flourish Foundation Project Inc (DBA) DDAAAT-App! Mentoring & Counseling. I created DDAAT-App! I created “DDAAT-APP!” following my own son's suicide attempt which he attributed to his frustration with bullying and limited access to a father figure’s guidance to handling bullying. The horror of waiting almost 20 minutes behind an ambulance to find out if my son could be revived was unbearable. Thankfully my son survived, however our scary journey continued as the subsequent reality of impossible choices ensued;

Go to work and leave my suicidal 17 year old home alone risking returning home to another suicide attempt or worse?  My insurance limits the number of mental health counseling visits permitted per year without prior authorization, yet obtaining prior authorization was a slow and cumbersome set of complex hoops to jump through. What do I do?  What resources are available in my area? How do I manage mounting piles of copay, co-insurance, and deductible payments that were not in the budget? I was smack in the twilight zone of making too much to qualify for assistance, yet not making enough to cover the mounting medical bills and impact of reduced income since FMLA protects my job but not my income. Although employed at one of the largest organizations with what I thought was great insurance benefits, I quickly found out what it means to be under insured.  My son didn't really respond to traditional counseling. He was NOT interested in sitting on a couch and talking to a therapist.  How do I get my son the counseling and services need to help him through this?

I was overwhelmed and feeling alone and helpless. After sharing my story, I found out that I was far far from alone. So many, shared our story. I desired solutions, and my quest to create a better way began, resulting in the creation of DDAAT-App! and the establishment of Flourish Foundation Project Inc.

Today, Flourish Foundation Project Inc (DBA DDAAT-App! Mentoring & Counseling, is a registered federally recognized (501c3) nonprofit organization, dedicated to building stronger communities through collaboration, community engagement, and the creation of mental health support programs – the statistically shown markers of the nation’s top ranked best places to live.  We are a Charlotte based grass roots organizations best described as an alliance of neighbors, businesses, and community supporting mental health, crating safe, strong, and caring communities, thru collaboration. Flourish Foundation Project Inc specializes in uniting people, businesses, human service agencies, nonprofit & faith-based organizations; together creating the foundational framework of collaborative programs needed for safer, stronger, and more caring communities.

Statistics & Research Data.

When addressing teen suicide, we understand the correlational links between teen suicide, hopelessness (not seeing a future for themselves), and the significantly increased suicide risk for children, teens, and young adults of absent father households, which were reportedly 63% percent more likely to attempt suicide based on a 2020 Surgeon General Report. In the most recent 2022 Surgeon General Report, that percentage grow by almost an additional 20%. According to a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2020, suicide is the second leading cause of death among individuals aged 10-24 in the United States. Surgeon General reports indicate that 65,000 teens have committed suicide across our country from the COVID-19 onset in 2019 to 2020, while a staggering 1.3 million have attempted suicide in that same period. A study published in the Journal of Marriage and Family found that children who experienced the divorce or separation of their parents had a higher risk of suicidal thoughts and attempts compared to children who lived with both parents. Similarly, a study published in the Archives of General Psychiatry found that children who experienced the death of a parent before the age of 18 were more likely to attempt suicide later in life. Additionally, research has shown that father absence is a risk factor for negative outcomes in children, such as poor academic performance, behavioral issues, and mental health problems, including depression and anxiety. While not all children of absent fathers may experience suicidal ideation, the impact of father absence on mental health cannot be ignored.

One of the major risk factors for suicide is a lack of purpose or direction in life, and having a career goal can provide a sense of purpose and meaning for individuals. Career education programs can help individuals identify their interests and strengths, explore different career paths, and develop the skills necessary to pursue their goals. By providing these resources and support, career education can help individuals feel more engaged and motivated, which can reduce their risk of suicidal ideation. Journal of Affective Disorders found that higher levels of education were associated with a decreased risk of suicide among adults. Another study published in the International Journal of Epidemiology found that higher levels of education were associated with a lower risk of suicide among both male and females. Additional studies have shown that job satisfaction and career stability can have a positive impact on mental health and overall well-being. This suggests that providing career education and resources to individuals, particularly those who may be at risk for suicide, could potentially help improve their mental health and decrease the likelihood of suicidal thoughts or behaviors.

Every year, suicide claims the lives of thousands of young people in the United States, leaving families devastated and communities shaken. We firmly believe that the collaborative solutions created by the DDAAT-App! Initiative are positioned to make a significant advancements in suicide prevention for our nation's youth, teens, and young adults.
